I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Anti-social behaviour - General, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. The Driffield Neighbourhood Policing Team has recently received a number of reports regarding ongoing anti-social behaviour in the Middle Street South area of Driffield, particularly around the public seating area.
It has been reported that groups of youths are gathering in the area during the evenings and are, at times, becoming increasingly loud, disruptive, and verbally abusive towards one another and towards members of the public passing through the area. This behaviour is causing concern and distress to local residents, businesses, and visitors.
In addition, reports have been received regarding littering and damage to the environment, with rubbish and other items being left on tables and the surrounding ground rather than being disposed of responsibly using the council bins provided nearby.
We would ask parents, guardians, and carers to please speak with their children if they are spending time in this area and remind them of the importance of respectful behaviour, consideration for others, and keeping public spaces clean and safe for everyone.
Residents and members of the public are encouraged to report any incidents of anti-social behaviour directly to the police by calling 101 if they feel alarmed, distressed, or witness unacceptable conduct. Reporting incidents promptly helps officers respond appropriately and allows the policing team to build an accurate picture of ongoing issues within the community.
As a neighbourhood policing team, we are actively working to address these concerns through patrols and engagement within the area. However, without reports being made at the time incidents occur, we are not always aware of the issues until after the event.
We would also ask individuals using the area to remain mindful that while many of the ground-floor premises along Middle Street South are commercial businesses, a large number of the upper-floor properties are residential homes. Excessive noise and disruptive behaviour late into the evening can have a significant impact on those living nearby.
We appreciate the continued support and cooperation of the community in helping us keep Driffield a safe and welcoming place for everyone.
Thank you, Driffield Neighbourhood Policing Team
Tackling antisocial behaviour can be a complex issue, and one which requires input and action from more than just the police. The Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 aims to put victims first, giving power to local people and enabling professionals to find the best solutions for their local area. The act provides the police, local authorities and other local agencies with flexible tools and powers that they can use to respond quickly and effectively to antisocial behaviour. These include: - civil injunctions.
- criminal behaviour orders.
- public spaces protection orders.
- community protection notices.
- dispersal powers.
- closure powers.
The act also includes measures such as the Community Remedy and antisocial behaviour case reviews which empower victims and communities to have a say in the outcome of their reports and hold agencies to account. If you ever experience this issue or have information regarding an incident, please report it using our online reporting tools at https://www.humberside.police.uk/, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online web chat or call the non-emergency number 101. Alternatively, you can stay 100 per cent anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their untraceable online form at crimestoppers-uk.org.
